About Providence

Providence, Rhode Island has a rich history. Roger Williams founded “Providence” in 1636 following the Lord’s direction in leading him there. The founding of this settlement established the first place in modern history to provide religious freedom to its citizens and not be persecuted. Rhode Island  is home now to many closed churches and full of people that do not practice Baptist beliefs. We feel called to preach the gospel in East Providence, the same city where Roger Williams first residence is located.

I was born in Sao Miguel, in the Azores Islands, Portugal. Growing up in Portugal was much different than the States. When I came to America, it was like “Wow! This is not the way I was brought up.”

I met my wife at a laundromat and even though my English was not great – we connected with each other as she helped me with my English. We got married and had children. Ten years into our marriage, our marriage was struggling. Seeking help with our marriage, my wife started attending a Baptist church. As a result, she got saved and faithfully started taking our kids to church. Her testimony convicted my heart, and I began attending with my family as well.

Getting saved changed my life and my family. We started marriage counseling, took discipleship classes, and began to serve in the church. The Lord allowed me to experience many different church ministries. I served the Lord as a Sunday school teacher to children and adults. I became a deacon, a treasurer and bus worker. Anything that the Lord impressed me to get involved in I said, “Yes.”

Our Burden

God has placed a burden in my heart for the lost and has called us to plant a church in East Providence, Rhode Island. 87% of the population is Portuguese, and there is a growing community of Spanish people as well. I’m looking forward to starting this work for God because I know there is no one reaching these people with the gospel. We will be starting an English speaking church, with Bible studies in Spanish and Portuguese.

Help Us Reach Our Goal

We are needing to raise support of $4,000/month for this new church start. We are working and praying toward being fully supported by September 18. Helping us reach our goal will enable us to dedicate more time to the work of God.
